Right now in our weekend Bible Studies we are examining the Lost Books of the Bible. We find the following documents to be FALSE teachings and we reject them as such. Can you find scripture in our Holy Bible that proves these books to be FALSE?

Apocryphal Gospels:

Pseudo-Matthew The text is available at this link. Interestingly, the introduction says, “The birth of the Virgin Mary, and the nativity and infancy of our Lord Jesus Christ, we find in apocryphal books. But considering that in them many things contrary to our faith are written, we have believed that they ought all to be rejected.” This book claims the apostle Matthew never intended this writing to be published.

The Proto-Evangelium of James describes “the birth of Mary the Holy Mother of God, and Very Glorious Mother of Jesus Christ.”

The Infancy Gospel of Thomas begins, “I Thomas, an Israelite, write you this account, that all the brethren from among the heathen may know the miracles of our Lord Jesus Christ in His infancy, which He did after His birth in our country.” It also includes Zeno’s fall from the roof and Jesus raising him to life again, among many other childhood miracles.

The History of Joseph the Carpenter begins, “In the name of God, of one essence and three persons. The history of the death of our father, the holy old man, Joseph the carpenter.”

The Arabic Gospel of the Infancy of the Savior fills in the blanks of what happened when Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt with Jesus to escape Herod’s men.

The Decree of Pope Gelasius lists the canon of the Old and New Testaments as well as the apocryphal books that were strongly condemned.

Jesus’ State of Humiliation

The Comfort of the Incarnation In this article from The Lutheran Witness John Pless revisits Martin Luther’s Christmas letter to Prince Joachim who is suffering from terrible bouts of depression. He reminds the prince how Jesus humbled Himself to exalt us.

The Christology of Philippians 2:5-11. In this scholarly article George Reule examines Jesus in His state of humiliation (The Springfielder, Volume: 35, No: 2; Year: 1971).
